Community Spotlight #5

Hi everyone! This week’s mod showcase doesn’t really have a theme. It’s simply about two mods I enjoyed the concept and execution of, by two different modders.

I’m going to be describing the most notable abilities in each.

Firstly we have…

 Practical Geology by Null

This mod is an effort to make you, as Null says, “a melee power caster”. It pretty much transforms you in a walking tank that creates earthquakes everywhere, and gives you situational tools as well. All the abilities use cooldowns instead of mana.

Patch 1.0.10 Changelog

EDIT: We totally forgot to mention that we’re PC Gamer’s Indie Game of the Year for 2011. Yeah. Oops. In celebration, we drew a wallpaper which they’re putting up at some point in the near future; we’ll host it over here as soon as they give us the go-ahead.

Gaslamp News

We have outgrown our offices, and are moving again! As previously briefly mentioned, the new offices have a spiral staircase and remind Daniel of the Ghostbusters (no pole though… yet). I interviewed for a job in this building eleven years ago, back when Black Box Games was still an independent studio and before they were purchased by EA. The thought of now renting an office, for Gaslamp, in the same building … is a little mindblowing.

I also have a giant mechanical clicking keyboard of doom now. It’s extremely noisy, and everybody else in the office hates it. I love it.

Dredmor News

Now that things are a little more organized on the Odin front, and now that our days are no longer a giant sink-hole of meetings and job interviews, we’ve found some time to finish pushing that patch out the door. A beta should be floating through the IRC channel any day now; at that point, we’ll have a week of testing, and then we will push everything to Steam, Desura, and the Humble Bundle. The current changelog is below the cut, as well as a handful of Odin teasers.

Community Spotlight #4

Hi everyone! The format for this week’s spotlight is a little different because I wanted to showcase a very proficient modder, Essence. He’s had it a long time coming, namely for his Essential DoD 1 and 2 mods which add 6 different skills to the game.

I will describe each of them briefly since there would be way too much to talk about for one post. If you want the details of every ability I suggest you go to Dredmorpedia, all six are featured there.

Bushido is probably the most Warrior-oriented of the skills. It’s designed to help melee characters survive the later levels and as such, it’s all about defensive buffs and self-healing. Here you even get some stackable buffs when getting hit, like Into The Jaws of Death, which stacks all resistances 66% of the time when you get hit.

Community Spotlight #3

Hey everyone! It’s modding time again. I wanted to touch up on some older mods this week and will be doing so as well in the next weeks, but Ruigi surprised us with a new masterwork that deserved immediate mention. And that is…

Runecaster

“You’re very scholarly, you also make runes.”

Runecaster is a wizard skill that combines crafting with spell casting. You create runes out of mana, which you then combine with the n-Dimensional lathe to create runewords. These runewords are throwing weapons that cast a spell when hitting enemies/the ground.

Patch 1.0.9 Addendum: It’s Out There Somewhere

We have sent 1.0.9 off to our friends at Steam, but they are really busy right now.  As far as we are aware, the Mac version has been successfully delivered to the distribution servers, so those of you with the Mac problems we were experiencing should be able to get your fix.

As far as the Windows flavor of Dredmor 1.0.9: we sent them an extra copy just in case they left the first one in their pants pocket at home, so we are expecting it to be up sometime today.  I will edit this post when we have confirmation of it being available for download/update for everyone.  Thanks for your patience, we will get to the bottom of it.

UPDATE: Looks like Steam is slowly rolling out the 1.0.9 update.  In order to get it to update quickly it is possible to delete the local files and reinstall, but those more patient than I should have it shortly (this will not erase the save files as they are stored elsewhere).

UPDATE 2: Some users are reporting issues with existing characters experiencing a teleportation bug.  We’re working on it right now; if you do have this problem, just force-quit the game (ctrl-alt-del) and roll a new character while you wait;  it seems to only affect existing characters.  We will keep you up to date as we get more info.

Realm of the Diggle Gods released for Dungeons of Dredmor

The Dungeons of Dredmor expansion Realm of the Diggle Gods is now available on Steam!

Buy it now on Steam.

(Also, Desura shortly, we hope.  We’re talking to them!)

In the lowest layers of the Dungeons of Dredmor, deeper than any man or woman has ever previously explored, lies the Realm of the Diggle Gods: giant, muscular things, created by the First Diggle in days of old, throbbing with potent gristly muscle and waiting to lay waste to any adventurer who dares to cross their path.

Deep within their underground temples, Lord Dredmor plots the next stage in his campaign of merciless brutality and world-terrorizing.

He’s probably sitting on an egg while he does it. There are a bunch of very large eggs down there, some of which are quite comfortable.

With six new skill trees, five new dungeon levels, a dozen new monster types, over one hundred new items, and a host of new rooms, features, and traps, the Realm of the Diggle Gods will challenge any adventurer – from a novice sword-poker to an advanced master of the arcane arts.

The Diggle Gods await your worship. It’s a very nice dungeon you have here, and it’d be a shame if anything happened to it.

Key features:

  • Six new skill trees: Veganism, Big Game Hunting, Werediggling, Emomancy, Piracy, and Demonology.
  • One Hundred New Items! .. ish.
  • Five new dungeon levels, in a variety of flavours!
  • New mysterious portals that lead to places that will kill you!
  • New scriptable rooms, providing joyful puzzles and traps!
  • A dozen new monster types to fight!
  • Polymorphing!
  • And More!

Realm of the Diggle Gods Trailer and Screenshots

Wish ye to ken eldritch knowledge of the Realm of the Diggle Gods? Look you no further for I present to you a trailer most fabulous for this new expansion to Dungeons of Dredmor:

Realm of the Diggle Gods will be released for sale very soon. Indeed, sooner than you imagine, unless you’re a very imaginative person indeed.

A big thanks to the talented Ian aka Verbal Processing for creating this trailer for us. Check out his Youtube channel in which he plays and discusses various games in an amusing manner. You’ll laugh and maybe even learn a thing or two.

And credit as always is due to the talented Mr. Steele who created the music; you can listen to as well as purchase the Dredmor soundtrack at Matthew’s bandcamp site.

If you don’t abide by Your Tubes, please do enjoy these screenshots that follow featuring all sorts of new nonsense you’ll discover in the Realm of the Diggle Gods.

Here, in the (new) Underground Forest, I make use of the lovely new fireball effect while a pack of loyal hunting diggles looks on. It’s possible some were caught in the blast. They’re very loyal. Usually.

A bit more of Dredmor 1.0.7 and beyond

The 1.0.7 beta should be going out to you Steam users with beta access in the next day or two [edit- or Monday for sure; whenever it gets pushed to Steam], provided little else explodes. We’ll keep you posted.

This screen gave me some trouble as you can see. The challenges I faced only grew from this point.
