Dungeons of Dredmor Free Expansion Available Now!

At long last the time has come.  You know what must be done.

You Have To Name The Expansion Pack :  now on Steam

What’s new? Here’s what:

  • Rebalancing of many original skills (now you can smith more flesh into zombys with Fleshsmithing, find more loot with Perception, fire more cannons at the same time with Piracy, and much more)
  • 29 new skills in 4 skill lines from the minds of mad Dredmor modders
  • 100+ new rooms filled with Tesla coils, lots of breakable stuff, and fine dining furniture (which is also breakable).
  • 20 new monster variations (including one new monster type)
  • 30 new crafting recipes
  • 47 new items from the Clockwork Grappling Bolt to the Rusty Caltrop Eruptor Trap
You want to know the details? Well it’s a good thing we have all kinds of details:
  • Battle Geology, a wizard-like warrior skill that involves killing people with rocks and a solid appreciation for tectonics – by Null
  • Clockwork Knight and Rogue Scientist, crafty steampunk skill lines that grow more powerful as your craft skills increase – by Ruigi
  • Warlockery, the wizard skill for wizards who would rather be warriors and want to blow stuff up with brute force application of mana as well as a massive overhaul of a large number of core skills and abilities -by Essence
  • Scads of twisty little rooms, all different, and decorated as befits the lich’s dungeon – by Bergstrom
  • And a horde of new monster variations from Poorly Cloned Heros to Diggle Rocketeers – by FaxCelestis
Go now. The expansion pack is not going to Name itself.

(And anyway, it’s free. I did mention that, right?)

I can’t seem to work out how to get it on steam. It doesn’t show up on the DoD page, and when I navigate straight to the expansion’s page, there’s no download link. Any suggestions?

Sorry to bug you guys again (I can stop it, help me D;), but I can’t seem work out how to download the expansion pack. Is it because I don’t have RotDG on Steam? (I got it on Desura)

  5. Digglebane says:

Yeah, um. I can’t download it either.
Steam downloaded a 33mb update, but i don’t have any new skills. Do i have to beat it first and/or buy RotDG?

Launching the game in Steam causes it to download things. Possibly the expansion but I honestly couldn’t tell what, if anything, was being updated.

    • Troacctid says:

The update that you downloaded automatically was the 1.0.11 patch, which is different from the expansion pack.

I don’t think the expansion pack downloads automatically. It didn’t for me. I noticed it had its own page in the Steam store, so I went there and there was a download link, which I clicked on to download it manually.

So, try looking for it in the Steam store.

Steam update downloaded and named. o/
Question, though. After this update my steam overlay ingame no longer works with the -opengl launch option. Any known workaround to get the overlay back again ?

It downloads on Steam but you have to go to the Steam store page and click on Install Game, and that should force a manual install.

Fantastic expansion guys and equally brilliant support of both the PC and Mac communities. Thank you so much on behalf of both and giving us Mac users a chance to play some of the most hilariously classic games of this generation.

WHAT? it’s free? i paid $2.5 for it on desura yesterday. that’s not much by any stretch, but hardly free.

since i ditched desura today for being a drm scheme, is there any other way to get to patches? i guess not?

    • eNTi says:

oh wait… that another dlc? oh my. my bad.

    • Sorry for that being ambiguous. We released a new expansion pack, entitled “You Have To Name The Expansion Pack” on Tuesday, and *that* is free. It isn’t currently available anywhere but Steam, but we are working on getting it up on other distribution channels.

Sadly all of the release versions of the update patches are served through our distributors and are not available directly from us. That said, should you reconcile your differences with Desura at some point, they should have the latest patches quite soon.

I mean, I GUESS requiring you to log in is technically DRM… but I don’t think there’s a download for any game you buy that doesn’t require you to login in at least some way.

    • rekh127 says:

Steam is DRM, desura is not, desura you can download the files and they’re yours no requirement to use desura, no authentication or anything. Steam if you install things you have to launch them through steam.
