Dungeons of Dredmor: Conquest of the Wizardlands

Gaslamp Games is pleased to announce another entry in its ongoing series of hastily-named expansion packs: Dungeons of Dredmor: Conquest of the Wizardlands.

We had so much fun releasing Realm of the Diggle Gods last year* and the ridiculously under-priced You Have To Name the Expansion Pack (with Steam Workshop support) two weeks ago, that we decided to do it all again**.

* AKA “The Year With No Christmas”
** This time for real money rather than Digglebucks. Why? Because Nicholas’ voracious coffee addiction doesn’t pay for itself.

For the past four months, a secret strike team of game development commandos has been secretly crafting arcane components into something for you… something about wizards. Something about their lands. Yes, this summon you must join the Conquest Of The Wizardlands.

New Features:

  • Explore the Wizardlands! Trade Wizarding Graffiti with your friends and enemies alike to gain access to the fractured extra-dimensional domains of the Wizards using an innovative retro-inspired magic password system.
  • Harness the expanded storage space of your very own Pocket Dimension where interdimensional gnomes probably won’t steal all your crafting-junk.
  • Encrust your Equipment with our powerful new Encrusting System! Upgrade weapons and armour with powerful crusts, offering special abilities and horrifying instability effects as crust is encrusted upon crust!
  • Tackle new foes from the terrifyingly fun Baron Samedi to the small and annoying Cloud Gremlins who shoot small and annoying lightning bolts at you! Beware the Monstrous Rutabaga, scourge of the Vikings, who will run you down at unexpected speed with the monstrous dash ability.
  • Drunkenness!
  • New trophy screens, including a rewrite of the achievement system for off-line play (and people not using Steam)
  • Two new weapon types: Daggers and Polearms! (No really, they’re not Swords and Staves anymore!)
  • A whole WHACK of new Skills: Daggers, Polearms, Bankster, Communist, Paranormal Investigator, Magical Law, and more!
  • Minibosses!
  • A small, pleasant handful of usability fixes! (Which everyone with the core game will get for free, naturally.)
  • Enhanced sneakiness, monster sight cones, and alertness levels for more roguish gameplay! The only thing missing is a box you can carry around to hide in — unless you count an extra-dimensional box (see the first item in this list).
  • Diggle Hell. It’s a real place.
How and when you ask?

Price: $2.99.

Arrival: Pretty Darned Quick.

Screenshots:

There's a lot going on here that's new to the game; see if you can spot the changes!

If only that Gremlin would leave me alone I could encrust my platemail with more plates.

Evidently I'm not very good at going for achievements on the development build.

The Pocket Dimension: It's a bit like if Doctor Who was a hoarder.

If you do not conquer the Wizardlands, the Wizardlands might just conquer you.

You guys are amazing for continuing to support this game. I’m interested in seeing how the Wizardlands will be integrated into the current floor-by-floor layout. This will definitely be a must-buy for me.

The tags man. The tags! Of course I’ll buy this, let’s hope Valve doesn’t mess up this release as well, going 0/3 would be hilarious.

I have seen the Wizardlands, and They Are Good. Inventory Woes? NO, IT’S FLOOR ART NOW!

Also, the new weapon skills (assuming they’re more-or-less the same as in the Alpha) are PIMP AS HELL.

O M G ! You have just become my very favorite developer! I’ve thought that the DoD has been a short adventure for ya and you’ll gonna move on to invent some new freakiness.

This is absolutely fantastic. More gray hair and crashes! Non Steam achievements is truly a most kind-hearted feature that developer can implement nowadays. Kudos!

    Instant buy.

Do you guys EVER stop working? Your work ethic is astounding. I’m terrible at Dredmor, haven’t ever reached the Diggle God levels, but I will be buying this the moment I can.

I love how you continue to support this game.
I originally picked it up from the humble bundle and didn’t expect much from it, but I was more than surprised with the game itself. It’s a wonderful game with the right amount of humor and rouge-like gameplay to make it a blast to play.
Your dedication to the community and mod makers is amazing (you made a whole DLC from them) and the continued bug fixes and expansions are truly making this a wonderful game, better than many AAA games being released. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait to play Project Odin (if that’s still something you are working on).

Yeah, definitely going to get it, especially if there’s more wizardy stuff for my warlock. Look forward to encrusting, since I’m big on customization and crafting.

Not sure if I’d use the room for a stockpile if those gnomes mentioned are real. I’ve got a nasty packrat habit as is, so I’d hate to leave a stack of crafting ingredients in there and find they’ve been stolen right after I’ve gotten the last elusive item.

Isn’t there the option to “import games into steam”. Don’t know how that works, never tried it, but you could give it a shot

I hope that my post about potential making a mod for it is what inspired the expanded inventory space (as Altre on the forums…). I’ll just tell myself so as to feel special. XD
As much as it appeals to me, I can’t get any of my buddies into Dredmor. I’ll have to raise my speech skill and keep trying.
I guess I’ll give ya’ll more money in their stead for the dlc.

  25. Borsook says:

Sounds great… but could we get someday some real animations for dual weapons? Pretty please?

    { reply }
    • MOOMANiBE says:

Real animations as in – showing each weapon in each hand during attacks?

Let’s see… with the current full-sprite animation system, that would add 21 (36 if you want the animations to put each weapon in its correct hand) times four directions, for a total of 84 (or 144) new animations required at 6-ish frames each for roughly 500-800 additional frames of animation. For comparison, an entire new monster is around 75 frames.

That’s a lot of time we could be spending making new content instead, dont’cha think?

      { reply }
      • Brian says:

You’re overthinking it. The dual attack could be a double speed playback of both regular attack animations, or a third arm zip-tied above the regular swing.

What I want from Dredmor is a DPS calculator; one that uses my average turn speed and a standard Windows File Copy dialog to provide wildly estimated figures.

        • FaxCelestis says:

A turn counter (number of turns in the dungeon) would be a cool feature, especially if I could call it from an ability.

I love you folks at GLG so damned much. If I ever make the mistake of having a child, I will name them after you!

Since I do not plan to ever make that mistake, I will have to adopt a kitten for each of the crew at GLG and name it for you. And then I will adopt a velociraptor to solve my kitten problem and name it Dredmor.

    🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  31. Wootah says:

I don’t know how this feels with regards to flavor when compared to the rest of DoD.

And what the game needs at this point is secondary (and maybe tertiary) bars for all the activateable skills a player can end up with. It really stinks to have lots on short timers and have to cycle add/remove them from your bars in heavy combat.

  46. ArcturusXIV says:

This game needs FOUR basic things to be complete:

    1) A system where you don’t stand on portal accidentally after whacking a monster to death and get teleported (same with some of the autolooting crap, when you’re going for a crate, you can step on one of the demon gates.)

    2) Unlockable Skillsets earned as Achievements. (Beat the game once you get a new set of Skill-perks for your next character.)

    3) Whips. Seriously!

    4) Also, since the game is isometric, but the character stands vertically, the angle between the character and the ground is wrong. This could be fixed!

Pro : EVERY SINGLE F***ING THING IN THIS PATCH!

    Cons :
    – Like Wootah said, Having an optional second bar of skills could be useful (even though I never used more than 10 skills I often had 12+)
    – Still no magic reflection icon
    – Maybe another hidden stats (Unless the “purple broken thing” icon on the plating in the 2nd screenshot is an item stats, I can’t see it in the 1st screenshot. And since it’s square and not circle it would means a new type of damage that comes in quite a great amount on an armor plating…
    – Please fix the fact that you can’t use Mods when on a user with non-english characters (cyrilics or simply french’s basic profile “Propriétaire”)

Keep up the good work and i’ll definitly buy this the day it comes out!
