Post-Holiday Update

EDIT 3:This is now on Desura. Once it looks like nothing else has gone hideously wrong, we’ll move it to Steam and the HIB.

EDIT 2:Alright Mac users, we’ve heard you. You think you’ve got what it takes to apply HOTFIXES. Well, here you go. Grab it, try it, let us know what you think; you’ll need to put it in your Dungeons of Dredmor.app in Contents/MacOS – it should replace an existing file called Dredmor.

All this chicanery will be on Steam and Desura some time tomorrow, provided that just throwing the patches out there doesn’t show us any new problems. 🙂

EDIT: We have a patch being tested that fixes the other three major issues with 1.0.9: mysterious portal issues, the crashing after level 1, and quest hordes not spawning. Windows users, if you want to test the patch at home: grab it here and throw that EXE into your Steam/steamapps/common/dungeons of dredmor folder. Mac users, we can’t give you a test patch quite as easily, but rest assured, we’re working on it. Again, this is an unofficial test patch, and is offered without guarantees, but we would like to know if it works or not. (It should, theoretically, fix your old crashing saves, too.)

Having survived the ancient ritual known as “Christmas with the Families”, we are back in the office today. For what it’s worth, I’m not sure that we actually remember how to relax any more.

That said: we’re back, we’re fixing things. Expect some kind of a status update on a) the OS X nonsense, b) the missing quest monsters, c) getting all of this pushed to Steam – in a bit.

Now has anybody seen my fire extinguisher…?

Welcome back. Nothing like turning your back on something you thought was fairly stable and watching it burn, eh?

Take some time. The only thing worse than a rushed patch is a rushed patch by burnt-out developers.

    Hurrah for Holiday survival!

Now, not to get the cattle prod warm, but… I don’t suppose there’s any word on the saved game crashes?

The Steam and Gaslamp Forums seem to confirm that this is an OS X as well as Windows 7 32/64 issue.

Common consensus seems to be that once a save has been made past the second floor, the game now seems to crash for many-a-folk (myself included [hence the hopeful prodding]).

The good news is, many of those posts include saved games and crash dumps!

Great to hear you are back !
Hopefully you could at least find some relaxing days with your family on Christmas.

Please do not rush another patch quickly out of the door but ensure that it fixes all disturbing issues.

just a sidenote here: I see all this Windows and Mac OS Patch stuff all over the place but see no notion on Linux ? Just to let you know: The update to 1.0.9 under Linux via Desura screwed up my latest savegames. More specific I am unable to load those savegames from 1.0.8.

Any time frame for patching the Linux version ? 🙂

        and, eh, HIB… please ?

Actually, a hotfix for linux would be much much much better because by the time they go to 1.0.10 (they just updated to 1.0.9), there might (might!) be several new problems….

Since there is no installer, it also will not matter as for the (not) userfriendlyness of patched binaries.

Patch 1.09b was applied to my Linux x64 version of DoD and surprise: My save game still screws up DoD 🙁

Not good…I spent a lot of time on this character and hate to start again..

If someone tells me where the savegames reside I can send you the corresponding save game which causes the issues for further investigation.

There does seem to be an occasional hitch or pause that I don’t remember noticing before, but maybe that’s just the odd monster triggering a trap out of view or something. While we’re talking bugs: with the patch, there is sometimes a delay when entering rooms.

Also, the crafting window behaves strangely: for instance, pressing ESC does not close it, but instead brings up the options window. This problem is not new in the patch, it was in 1.0.9. Not sure about earlier versions.

I posted this already, but under the last post:

The 1.0.9 on HIB for Linux doesn’t load anything – well, unless you count segfaults as loading my desktop. 1.0.7, which I wisely saved, loads the only save made there just fine – unfortunately for me, it’s just the tutorial save. Halp? Should I just go ahead and register DoD on Desura? Id est, would that enable me to actually play without fear of saving or the game crashing? And I was doing so good for a third attempt, heh.

OS X Lion user here. And I’m getting the crash on load bug. I’ve tried following the instructions to install the patch, but can’t figure them out. I’m not a power user, and I don’t want to spend my free time figuring out how to make the game I paid for work; I want to spend it killing diggles, you know?

Uh, so, I guess I’ve always had the ‘game crashes trying to load level 2-ish save file’, but now the game won’t even launch. I don’t know anything about crash logs or error messages or whatnot, but if I launch desura from a terminal window, here’s what Dredmor tells me when it tries to launch

    Error opening /home/ohako/desura/common/dungeons-of-dredmor/Dredmor as 0: 2

The verify files thing comes back clean, I even re-installed from scratch (desura update…doesn’t work so good), but the Dredmor file just doesn’t open.
