Realm of the Diggle Gods Trailer and Screenshots

Wish ye to ken eldritch knowledge of the Realm of the Diggle Gods? Look you no further for I present to you a trailer most fabulous for this new expansion to Dungeons of Dredmor:

Realm of the Diggle Gods will be released for sale very soon. Indeed, sooner than you imagine, unless you’re a very imaginative person indeed.

A big thanks to the talented Ian aka Verbal Processing for creating this trailer for us. Check out his Youtube channel in which he plays and discusses various games in an amusing manner. You’ll laugh and maybe even learn a thing or two.

And credit as always is due to the talented Mr. Steele who created the music; you can listen to as well as purchase the Dredmor soundtrack at Matthew’s bandcamp site.

If you don’t abide by Your Tubes, please do enjoy these screenshots that follow featuring all sorts of new nonsense you’ll discover in the Realm of the Diggle Gods.

Here, in the (new) Underground Forest, I make use of the lovely new fireball effect while a pack of loyal hunting diggles looks on. It’s possible some were caught in the blast. They’re very loyal. Usually.

Behold skills! There are new lines of skills as well as additions to old skill lines. This character is a Vampiric Pirate Hunter-Vegan that dabbles in Demonology. (Remember what we said about exploring ethical quandaries? I think this one nails it.)

One can polymorph into a bat (among other ... things), as I have here, flitting merrily through the Stygian Dojo while pursued by champions of The Moustache Fighting League. Note grated cheese glinting in the dark.

Yes, you can use eye lasers to blast your enemies. The Perception skill always seemed a bit underpowered -- until now. And pleasant surroundings, no? Which reminds me, we really need to look into acquiring those Giger chairs for the Gaslamp offices.

Let us not forget the new Werediggle skill line! Obey your inner Diggle as you transform into your true self; menace the dungeon, spread disease, lay eggs, drill through walls, and above all: Keep on Digglin'.

Now, patience. But only a little.

Polymorphing? Laying eggs? If Dredmor becomes the Nethack of this decade, I will be most pleased. Can we get blessed/uncursed/cursed and the ability to manipulate it with the Holy Water of Krong? Holy Whisky of Krong?

ARGH! Curse you Krong with my overactive imagination! I want to go into the realms of the diggle gods now!

I support the idea of Dungeons of Dredmor becoming the Nethack of the decade.

They did mention in the IRC that Potion Throwing could be coming in the future.

I still say the game desperately needs an official command that waits until either the character is A) fully healed or B) an enemy is detected.

Hey guys, I really love this game, and I think it would be my favourite if it had more roguelike features in it.

You should make the player able to eat a corpse, and that will have it’s bad sides and good sides.

You should also have gods that can be happy or upset on you, and they will reward or punish you.

You should have a separate inventory for crafting, my inventory is filling up too much with those things and I rarely get the chance to craft because I have to throw the items.

You should be able to throw your items at the enemy, everything, even a cheese. It would be so awesome, like in angband.

I have more ideas but please guys, add more interesting features to it and not only new monsters/items and skills. Add even more gameplay changes and make this the best new roguelike game!

There is plenty you can do with corpses, but all of it requires skills.
    1)grow mushrooms from them
    2)eat them with vampirism 2
3)Blow them up in people’s faces with necro
    4)animate them into zombys

As for gods, while nethack has gods, I have not seen it be the norm. Keep in mind nethack has been in development for MANY years, whereas DoD is pretty new. Hidden god pleasure also makes the game less accessible for a non hardcore player, where they are trying to make it more accessible (without making it too easy)

Inventory:inventory WILL fill up. Nothing on the early levels steals or eats your gear, and I have not yet had a game where there is not a store on level 1. You can also fill your smelter/anvil/etc. with items, increasing your inventory a bit. Things are more crowded if you use range weapons or any crafting, but only if you carry all your crafting materials with you everywhere.

Throwing everything … I like this idea a lot. I am not sure how to adjust the interface for this without making it significantly more complex. Perhaps level 1 throwing should have a skill to ready any item to throw or some such.

Have patience with the game. It is being expanded, but Roguelikes are like chili. They aren’t what they should be until they have some time to simmer, which takes time.

I believe the skill system is there so that you have some of those features, but only the subset you choose. I share your hope that at some point there will be 5 ways to use a kitchen sink and 6 uses for a fountain (but please no ‘jedi’ class).

The game is about to become moddable, so some of these things may be created by loyal fans with modding skillz
