Distracting Time Sinks

After many hours spend in terminal working out our beloved server I occasionally need a project that servers no purpose other than to distract me.  The most recent of these projects involves these guys:

Head Programmer

Head Programmer

Head Artist

Head Artist

Head Head?

Head Head?

No, I’m not talking about the people these cartoon heads represent.  In fact I’m talking about these floating heads as used for avatars for our visualization of the Dredmor codebase!  Using a swanky little program called gource I was able to take our SVN logs and make them more attractive than if you were using beer googles. Through many different encodings I was able to make a movie that visualizes all the work that has been done on the Dredmor code base since we moved to our own hosting earlier this year.  I must say the process of video editing and encoding humbled me quite a bit, but rather than bore you with details here is the fruits of my labor.

For now its back to the salt mines for me.  I’m close to finishing my first WordPress plugin that is currently being used right here at Gaslamp Games and will soon be releasing it for the public to mock/enjoy.

Niiiiiice. I’ll have to run that over my own source tree…I’m kind of afraid of what it will look like, though.

It usually turns out better than you would expect. Do it in Linux or OSX. It’s easier to take the gource output to ffmpeg for encoding.

For some reason, all I can think of is using that as an input for this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQfYc9UgOJo

Come on, who wouldn’t want to shoot the crap out of their code?
